Egypt's Cabinet on July 31 ordered police to crack down on protests by supporters of deposed President Mohammed Morsi, AFP reported Aug.1... The order comes days after 82 people were killed at a demonstration in Cairo in support of Morsi... Diplomatic efforts are also picking up pace... The European Union and Germany recently sent envoys to attempt mediating the political crisis in Egypt...Tensions remain high in Cairo as Mr Morsi's supporters continue their attempts to return him to power...Although the United States are playing hardball with a recent cancellation of an expected delivery of F-16 fighter aircraft, the European Union hold a unique position to mediate between both the Egyptian military and the Muslim Brotherhood.
